The Balance Method
Balance Method
Balance Method is a form of acupuncture known for its rapid and often remarkably noticeable effect. Many patients experience changes within seconds or minutes after the needles are inserted.
The method is based on principles developed by the late Richard Teh-Fu Tan, who spent many years refining classical Chinese acupuncture into a unique balancing system focused on precision and fast results.
In this style of acupuncture, the needles are usually not placed directly in the painful area itself. Instead, treatment is based on the body’s mirrored relationships and meridian connections. For example, if you come with tennis elbow, the needles will often be placed in entirely different areas of the body.
The method is especially effective for pain and dysfunction related to muscles and joints — including neck, shoulder, back, hip, and knee pain, as well as tennis elbow and other tension-related conditions.
To achieve the best and most stable results, I often recommend treatment twice weekly for a period of time.
“If You Want to Turn on a Light…”
Nearly 10 years ago, I was first introduced to this way of working with acupuncture. I witnessed how Richard Teh-Fu Tan created almost immediate changes using only a few needles, and I was instantly fascinated.
Shortly afterwards, I had the opportunity to study the method through one of his closest students, who was teaching in Copenhagen. It marked the beginning of a completely new understanding of the possibilities within acupuncture.
One of Dr. Tan’s well-known sayings can be translated as:
“If you want to turn on a light, try the switch before you start working on the lamp.”
This describes the philosophy behind the method very precisely: working through the body’s connections and balancing systems rather than focusing only on the area where the symptoms appear.
